SUBJECT:
Fall 2005 Campus Parking - Update

As most of you know the Nutwood Ave structure is complete and open, but construction of the campus’ second largest parking structure is underway in lot B and K and as a result, particularly for students, convenient parking will be at a premium once again this fall. Parking demand is greatest between 9am - 3pm, Monday through Thursday. I suggest that you try to plan your commute trips with sufficient time to drive to campus, park and walk to your campus destination. Also, you should anticipate delays due to the traffic congestion that typically occurs at the start of our academic semesters.

Historically the first four weeks of classes are the highest demand periods for parking, and we expect this fall to be the same. To provide adequate on campus parking inventory for the first four weeks of the semester, the following services will be available to accommodate parking demand on campus this fall. These services will add capacity for an additional 400 vehicles to park on campus during this period.

STUDENT LOTS

Assisted Parking
Assisted parking increases lot capacity by parking cars in the lot drive aisles after all the parking spaces are filled. The University has contracted with Parking Concepts, Inc., a company that specializes in operating assisted parking lots at universities and colleges, to provide this service at Cal State Fullerton.

  • Assisted parking will be available 8am – 4pm, Monday through Thursday, in student parking lots A-North and G. There is no charge for assisted parking, however a valid CSUF parking permit, or a daily parking permit for visitors, is required to park on campus.
  • Assisted parking will be available August 22 – September 15, 2005, to help alleviate parking demand during the start of the fall semester.
  • If you use assisted parking, you will need to leave your car keys with the attendant in exchange for a claim check. PCI recommends that you leave your car VALET KEY, which does not open your car’s glove box or trunk, with the attendant. Never store or leave valuables in your car.
  • When you return to the parking lot, present your claim check to the attendant for your car key. An attendant will be available until 8pm daily to return car keys. After 8pm, keys can be retrieved from the University Police Department, located at the Corner of State College Boulevard and Gym Drive.

Overflow Campus Parking
In addition to assisted parking, during the first few weeks of the fall semester, sections of campus streets will be designated for on-street parking from 8am – 5pm to accommodate overflow parking. Motorists can park on the following street sections only when directed by a University Police or Parking Officer:

  • West Campus Drive, southbound from Associated Road to Gym Drive.
  • East Campus Drive, southbound from the Engineering Computer Science to the south entrance of lot F.
  • Sports Complex Service Road

FACULTY/STAFF LOTS
Parking spaces available for faculty and staff should be adequate to meet demand. We have spaces in lot F, I, C-West, A-South, E-West, H and College Park south. However, as is always the case, the most convenient parking lots (such as F and I) are usually full at 9:30am and stay relatively full until after 4pm. If you have questions, please check the parking web site at www.parking.fullerton.edu or call the office at (657) 278-3082.

Faculty and staff who need to purchase semester and annual (payroll deduction) permits should go to the Parking Office, T14, located east of University Hall. The Parking Office is open from 7am – 5pm, after hours service from 5pm - 7:30pm is available Monday – Thursday at the Visitor Information Center located in front of Langsdorf Hall.

Carpooling and Transportation Alternatives
Faculty and staff who carpool, use public transportation and walk or bike to the campus reduce parking demand and traffic congestion. Please contact Parking & Transportation at extension 4699 or visit the campus parking website at www.parking.fullerton.edu for information about financial incentives and subsidies available to qualified employees.

U-Pass Program
“Your bus pass is already in your wallet.” The University Pass (U-Pass) Program allows faculty, staff and students to use their TitanCard as an OCTA bus pass. Encode your TitanCard for U-Pass at the TitanCard Office, PLS160.

UPDATES AND REMINDERS

Daily Parking Fee Increase
The daily parking permit fee will be $5 beginning Monday, August 22, 2005. Departments who have purchased daily permits that expire Friday, August 19, 2005, may return unused, expired permits to Parking & Transportation for a credit towards the purchase of new permits at the $5 rate.

NUTWOOD PARKING STRUCTURE
As required by law we recently had a traffic consultant develop speed limits for all campus roadways. New speed limit signs are in the process of being installed throughout campus including the Nutwood Parking Structure. We will begin radar enforcement of speed limits in the structure and elsewhere on campus this fall. This safety measure was taken in response to complaints from faculty, staff and students that motorists where driving too fast particularly in the structure.

Parking Construction Projects
Faculty/Staff parking lot C-East is closed for refurbishing and is expected to reopen in late September/early October.

Construction of the State College Parking Structure, located north of Dorothy Lane, on parking lots B and K, is underway. The foundation and ground floors of the structure are completed and the contractor has begun pouring concrete for the upper decks. The facility is scheduled to open in August, 2006.

Let me add that we will be monitoring the situation as the semester progresses and will make appropriate adjustments to try to make your parking experience as convenient as we can.

I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank the campus community for their patience during the temporary parking space shortage on campus while the structure is being built. If you have any questions, please contact Parking & Transportation at ext. 3082 or visit their website at www.parking.fullerton.edu.
